Motorcycle riders face many hazards on the road. Everything from weather conditions to road conditions to mistakes made by other drivers could cause an accident. Some of these accidents are relatively minor, such as when a biker low-sides around a corner and slides into the gravel. But others are very serious, such as when a motorcycle collides with a larger motor vehicle.
One of the top reasons for these multi-vehicle accidents is when the other vehicle is turning left ahead of the motorcycle. If there is not enough space for the driver to execute the turn properly, the motorcycle will collide with the side of that vehicle at high speed. The rider is very likely to suffer serious injuries or even pass away, which is why this is known as one of the most common and most dangerous motorcycle accidents.
Why does it happen?
In many cases, these accidents happen because the driver does not see the motorcycle and doesn’t realize they’re cutting the bike off. This could be because the motorcycle is far away or because its dark color makes it blend into the road. The driver who is turning may not even realize they’ve made a mistake until the moment of impact.
One interesting phenomenon is known as intentional blindness. This just refers to the way that the brain processes information and tries to fill in gaps in vision with the things that a person expects to see. So if someone doesn’t see motorcycles very often and isn’t looking for them, they could theoretically look directly at the motorcycle and still turn in front of it because they honestly did not see it.
Seeking compensation
If you’ve been injured in a motorcycle accident, you could have extensive medical bills and other costs. Be sure you know how to seek financial compensation.
